You’ve got to be there!
This was the message on the lips of the brethren and which also emanated from their being as they went about daily on their various campuses telling fellow students about the program. Arrayed in brightly pink coloured tee-shirts many of them organized group rallies and stormed the students’ hostel, loudly announcing the event. It was a celebration of the word, akin to the occurrence recorded in the bible of Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. (Mtt21:1-11)
As the publicity went on day after, day the Spirit of God and a myriad of angels were at work preparing the hearts of the students for this special visitation. The expectations skyrocketed daily as more and more people heard and made decisions to attend, some of them having to travel over 4 hours to get to the host campus.
The program day
Students started arriving from the morning of that day from Universities in various parts of Ghana: Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Miotso and Sunyani. Several students from 2 main high schools in Accra were also present. Their excitement was contagious as they shared with each other their expectations for the program.
The meeting began that evening with a session of praise and worship and special presentations by the choir. Following this, Pastor Afolabi began sharing on the importance of God’s word in achieving maximum soundness and prosperity in one’s life. Reading from Isaiah 26 :3, He admonished the excited crowd of youth gathered to stay their minds on God continually, as that is the only guarantee to enjoy peace with confidence and prosperity; despite the looming economic darkness that plagues the nations in today’s world. He read from Joshua 1: 8 and 2Timothy 2: 15, and further emphasized the place of meditation on the word as the only way to chart one’s course to undeniable success and victory in every circumstance of life.
The message came forth with such power that caused the entire congregation to erupt in tongues, praise and prophecy, each one declaring the word of faith to their situations, families and bodies in response to the instructions of the man of God.
The high point of the meeting that evening was the salvation made that witnessed many coming forward to receive a glorious new life in Christ.
An unforgettable experience it was indeed!
